The seal comes before the machinery
The frame shows what a failing seal looks like up close: the white gasket pulled out of its groove where the top of the door turns the corner, leaving a gap the eye can miss when the door is shut. Every opening then lets damp kitchen air in, the coil works harder, and the refrigerator side drifts upward and the freezer, which has its own seal, stays unaffected. Sub-Zero’s guidance is plain: a gasket with rips, tears or cracks should be replaced, not patched.
You can look for this yourself. Run your eye around the whole gasket with the door open, check that no jar, tray or drawer front is holding the door off, and make sure the door ajar alarm has not been switched off. All three are among the first steps Sub-Zero itself lists for a warm refrigerator.
When the door is fine
If the seal is whole and the door closes flush, the fan behind the fresh-food panel is our next suspect. Sub-Zero’s classic combination built-ins keep a compressor and an airflow for each side, so a working freezer does not vouch for the refrigerator’s fan. A motor that slows before it quits gives a compartment that warms a little more each day.
