A refrigerator that runs and runs
What Ravenna owners notice is often less a breakdown than a drift. The refrigerator has settled a few degrees above where it was set, the compressor hardly seems to stop, and nothing has obviously failed. Sub-Zero’s service manual for the 600 series works through a warm refrigerator in much the order we do: the door, the condenser and its fan, the evaporator fan, the compartment sensor, the lights, and only then the sealed system.
The condenser is the usual finding. Lint and dust across the coil, or a condenser fan whose blade has been knocked or blocked, leave the machinery unable to shed heat, and the cabinet loses ground on warm days. Sub-Zero adds a useful limit: with the refrigerator set at 38°F and reading above 48°F, a condenser cleaning alone is unlikely to bring it back, which tells us a part has failed as well.
The lights are the cause that surprises people. On the classic built-ins a switch pressed by the closed door turns them off; if the depressor on the door is bent or missing, the lamps stay on in the dark, and the manual lists that among the causes of a warm compartment.
