An empty bin, and the water behind it
The bin that used to refill overnight is empty, or it holds a handful of undersized cubes. Before anything is taken apart, Sub-Zero’s own checks are worth running through. The ice maker has to be switched on, its shut-off arm has to be down, and the bin has to sit level and fully seated. The freezer needs to be at 5°F or colder, with 0°F the setting Sub-Zero recommends. After a new installation or any fix, give it 24 hours before judging.
When those pass, what we usually find is water that is not arriving. A supply valve may have been closed during other work, the filter may be past its date or not seated, or an under-sink reverse-osmosis system may not hold the steady pressure the ice maker depends on; Sub-Zero’s design guide for its 600-series built-ins gives a working range of 20 to 100 psi. Cubes that shrank or came out hollow before the bin went empty point the same way. A fill tube frozen solid is the other regular find, and it has to be thawed, not forced.
Soft water and what it rules out
